What I Learnt In ISUManila 2015

August 8, 2015 by Yana

ISUM 2015 is an event for aspired entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs held by AIESEC  alumni Philippines on July 10 to 11 in Manila.

This event is not an ordinal meet-up where we just listen to presentations but to learn with actual activity such as workshop,  pitch contest, open space technology where participants choose own topic and discuss.
Here are what I learnt and what is interesting.

Team building

I joined team building workshop by Mr. Marco Villa. He provided a lot of knowledge in short time. Here is what is  the most interesting.

  1. Investors are watching team, not idea.
Entrepreneur will have hard time, and then the team which has only idea will stop going ahead.
  2. Be coherent.
If we are not coherent, 1 plus 1 equals less than 2.
  3. Fear of conflict is the cause of breakup.
We tend to avoid small conflict. It will result the difference of expectation.

Exit for Startup in the Philippines

Panel discussion of investors  were so exciting. Some investors introduced exit in foreign stock market like Singapore and Australia because the Philippines doesn’t have stock market for startup like NASDAQ. On the other hand, buy-out is not mentioned by any investers. I personally think the main profit from Filipino start up investiment seems  income gain, not exit.

Philippine Startups

Here is interesting seed startup I met.

  • Reshop.ph
C2C market place with reward system.  In the Philippines, 2nd hand items are more common. This platform provides us more opportunity  to reuse 2nd hand items to reduce waste. What is interesting is that whenever we sell or provide our things, we can get green eco point which can be redeemed for eco product.
  • NARRA3D.PH
3D printing rental service. They will help schools to provide opportunity to learn 3D printing. The unique point of them is  that they provide not only 3D printer but also training how to use 3D printing device.
